university of Greenwich Galleries
A website for three new gallery spaces at the University of Greenwich.
I was approached to design and develop a website for the gallery spaces created in a new university campus location. The website was required to provide details on each space, distinguishing their purposes as well as providing general information and a place to advertise upcoming shows and events.
Plans for the information architecture, styling, logo design and technical build were drawn up and accepted by the gallery curator. The site was then fully fleshed out within the browser, and presented to the gallery advisory panel for acceptance. Following this a training session was carried out to ensure staff were comfortable with using the backend.
My aim with the site was to create a clean look and feel that would support but not distract from the artwork displayed. A logo was designed featuring three coloured spots to represent each space, and this colour coding was continued throughout the site to enhance usability by providing an immediate reference for users.
The site has a unique Wordpress theme utilising HTML5, CSS, PHP, and Jquery. Selected plugins were used for various utilities, including media caching and automatic backup. Custom fields were used to ensure that adding information would be easy for gallery staff. The site is compatible with all major browsers (IE 9 onwards).
